Yesterday, September 19th, Costa Rica’s Turrialba Volcano (located approximately 45 minutes from San José) erupted several times, spewing ash into the sky. The airport in San José has been temporarily closed in order to clean the runways of ash. Our Resident Directors have confirmed that all students are safe and accounted for, and the Costa Rican government has issued no major warnings at this time. Students have been advised to avoid outdoor activities and/or to wear a face mask if they suffer from respiratory allergies, and have been reminded to contact our Resident Directors if they feel unwell so they can assist them in seeking medical care if necessary. We will provide further updates as the situation warrants.
